Tsumeb - Weatherly Mining Namibia Limited

Weatherly Mining Namibia operates the Tschudi open pit mine, heap leach and SX-EW processing facility
in the Tsumeb area. Applicants are invited to apply for the Technical Superintendent and Processing
Superintendent vacancies in the Processing Department. The ideal candidates will have a combination
of engineering proficiency and operational experience in base metal hydrometallurgy including solvent
extraction and electro wining technology. Strong analytical and supervisory skills as well as a willingness
to develop client and professional relationships will be highly valued. The appointed candidate will be
expected to work on the Tschudi Mine Site, located ±20 km west of Tsumeb.

VACANCY: TECHNICAL SUPERINTENDENT


Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification in metallurgy/chemical engineering or equivalent mineral processing qualification.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in the industry working as a metallurgist.
• Worked in both technical and operational roles with at least three years’ experience in managing a team.
• Fluent in English – spoken and written. Secondary language skills viewed favorably.
• Code B driver’s license.

Specialist Skills and Knowledge

• Practical experience in hydro-metallurgical plants including SX and electro-wining operational functions.
• Experience in base metals, including copper, would be desirable.
• Experienced in use and application development of metallurgical accounting systems and basic knowledge
of plant control systems and SCADA technology.
• Experience in leading plant budgeting and cost control processes.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including senior
management, technical professionals and operational personnel.
• Ability to work independently and to produce high quality technical reports.
• Experience in contract management and optimization will be highly regarded.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead a team of metallurgists/chemical engineers and operational staff.
• Manage metallurgical test work required for effective operation and control of the plant.
• Manage consumables and reagent consumption, and stock levels.
• Monitor and maintain the metallurgical accounting system and company MIS.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders i.e. Mining, laboratory, Engineering, Senior management and
technology suppliers to ensure adequate resource availability and accurate forecasting.
• Managing plant capacity and efficiency improvement projects.
• Monitor, investigate and analyses the heap leach and refinery plant performance to achieve continuous
improvement and maximize operational efficiencies.
• Management of laboratory contractor according to service level agreements and processing requirements
• Ensure compliance to corporate and work location environmental, health and safety policies, procedures
and practices.




VACANCY: PROCESSING SUPERINTENDENT

• Minimum 8 years’ experience in the industry working as a metallurgist.
• Worked in both technical and operational roles with at least three years supervisory experience.
• Fluent in English – spoken and written. Secondary language skills viewed favorably.
• Code B driver’s license.

Specialist Skills and Knowledge

• Practical experience in hydro-metallurgical plants including solvent extraction and electro-wining operational
functions.
• Experience in base metals, including copper, would be desirable.
• Experienced in application development of metallurgical accounting systems; basic knowledge of plant
control systems and SCADA technology.
• Strong leadership qualities especially with plant budgeting and cost control processes.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including senior
management, technical professionals and operational personnel.
• Ability to work independently and to produce high quality technical reports.
• Experience in contract management and optimization will be highly regarded.
• Membership of an industry recognized professional organization would be ideal.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead a team of metallurgists/chemical engineers and operational staff.
• Actively contribute to the creation of annual production plans, cost targets and generation of OPEX and
CAPEX plans.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders i.e. mining, laboratory, engineering, senior management and
technology suppliers to ensure adequate resource availability and accurate forecasting.
• Managing plant capacity and efficiency improvement projects.
• Monitor, investigate and analyses the heap leach and refinery plant performance to achieve continuous
improvement and maximize operational efficiencies.
• Management of processing contractors according to service level agreements and production requirements
• Ensure compliance to corporate and work location environmental, health and safety policies, procedures
and practices.

Remuneration will be according to qualifications and experience.
