Weatherly Mining Namibia operates the Tschudi open pit mine, heap leach and SX-EW processing facility in the Tsumeb area.
The appointed candidate will be expected to work on the Tschudi Mine Site, located ±20 km west of Tsumeb.

Applicants are invited to apply for the Mining Manager position. The Mining Manager is the Head of Department of the
Technical Services Department reporting directly to the General Manager. The candidate must have a combination of
engineering proficiency and operational experience in hard rock, base metal open pit mines. Strong software skills and a
willingness to develop client and professional relationships will be highly valued.

VACANCY: MINING MANAGER

Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification for Mining Engineer or suitably related mining qualification
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in the industry with at least 7 years working at management level
• Experienced user of mining software packages: Surpac, MineSched, and MineSight is crucial
• Worked in both technical and operational roles
• Membership of an industry recognised professional organisation
• Open pit blasting certificate
• Fluent in English – spoken and written. Secondary language skills viewed favourably
• Code BE (08) drivers licence

Key Accountabilities

• Ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental performance are delivered at all times.
• Direct and control all open pit mining operations to safely and productively achieve production targets within budget
cost
expectations.
• Management and control of the mining contractor to ensure budgeted performance targets are met or exceeded, and to
ensure that the mining contractor is at all times complying with contracted KPIs.
• Management of Mining Technical Services Department, with particular focus on training and development, continuous
improvement and implementation of international best-practice mining capabilities.
• Preparation of short, medium and long-term mining budgets, strategic business plans and continuous monitoring of
conformance.
• Continuous optimisation of mining process to maximise ore delivery.
• Liaise closely with Processing Manager to maximise copper production.
• Provide mine plan guidance to Senior Management on both technical and mine operations aspects.
• Check that mine plans incorporate sound mining principles such as productivity, mining rates and equipment
capabilities.
• Check and approve mining schedules that meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure that Life-of-Mine updates including pit optimisation/design, production schedules, OPEX & CAPEX, schedules are
carried out as and when required.
• Review Reserve & Resource calculations and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with and act as a role model for corporate and work location safety policies, procedures and
practices.
• Experience in open pit mining systems, with strong capability in mine planning and operational functions.
• Experience in base metals, including copper, gold and uranium mining.
• Experience in Life-of-Mine optimisation/updates and detailed annual budget preparations.
• Experience in groundwater management in open pit mines and geotechnical pit slope management.
• Incumbent demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including senior management,
technical professionals and operational personnel.
• Has the ability to work independently and to produce high quality technical reports.
• The incumbent has good knowledge of global reporting codes including JORC 2012 and the NI 43-101.
• Has ability to sign off as a Competent Person in terms of Resources and Reserves.
• Incumbent has extensive experience in mining contract management and optimisation.
