THE POSITION
The Chief Executive Ocer (CEO) is responsible for providing strategic guidance, oversight and
leadership for the effective stewardship of the resources and assets of Namport in support of
Government’s socio-economic agenda, by ensuring that Namport has the capacity to fulfil its
roles as an effective instrument of support, in the achievement of National, Regional, and local
economic and social objectives. He / She will ensure the continuous revenue generation and
volume growth by developing and implementing the authority’s marketing and commercial
strategies, whilst simultaneously monitoring effective structures, processes and approaches.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Provides corporate leadership for the management of Namport’s full operations, resources and assets through the exemplary development and execution of strategic and financial planning and management of risk.
  • Is responsible for meeting Namport’ s mandated objectives in terms of the Namibian Ports Authority Act, 1994, thereby maximizing the market value of the State’s investment in the assets managed, whilst continuously growing the asset base.
  • Successfully drives, motivates and retains a team of professionals, whilst promoting employment equity and sound people management practices.
  • Leads and promotes co-operation with national and international entities and directs the planning, development and execution of marketing strategies and initiatives to enhance Namport’s position as a port of choice to Namibia and international shipping communities.
  • Leads complex business negotiations and represents the company as appropriate in all its relationships with major customers, stakeholders and shareholders.
  • Enables the Board to fulfil its Governance function and is the interface between the Board and Executive management
  • Fosters a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and leads and promotes the highest standards of compliance

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Engineering or any other relevant field.
  • A Master’s degree in any of the above would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years’ senior management experience out of which 5 years must be at an executive level in an organization of comparable size.
  • Extensive experience in the transport or maritime industry will be well regarded, as well as exposure to the operation of an SOE.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in dealing with commercial, financial, service, technical, industrial relations in a complex multidisciplinary organization.
  • A firm understanding of corporate governance.
  • Strong capacity for developing a vision and strategy for an organization and experience with implementation of organizational strategy and action plans.
  • Charismatic leader with exceptional human relations.
