About

Dabis Guest Farm is situated north of Helmeringhausen and lies in the Konkiep Valley, in the south-west of Namibia. The farmstead is surrounded by a limestone plateau and is an ideal stopover between Windhoek, Luderitz, Sossusvlei or the Fish River Canyon.

Owned by the Gaugler family since 1926, this working sheep farm is now run by the families 4th generation, Stephan and Jenny. They maintain a fitting balance between running a guest house and operating their sheep farm and many of their guests comment on their forward thinking, enthusiasm and environmentally sensitive disposition.

In the peaceful farm atmosphere, guests can enjoy German-Namibian hospitality, a high standard of personal service and delicious home-cooked meals, prepared mainly from farm produce. An insight into Namibian farm life, as well has the difficulties on sheep farming in this arid area of the country, can be grasped from the German, English and Afrikaans speaking hosts.

Breakfast on the farm includes cereal, yogurt, juice, fresh baked bread, cheese, salami and tea/coffee. Fried eggs are also available. Tea/coffee with freshly baked banana bread/cake are served in the afternoon. A typical dinner meal would be lamb stew with rice, beetroot salad and butternut. There is no bar, but soft drinks, beer and wine are available.

There is a garden with a beautiful green lawn and large shady trees to relax under. There are some wonderful views from the swimming pool and guests are also welcome to use the tennis court. Rackets are available if guests fancy a smash or a volley before afternoon tea!

Accommodation is in 6 simple, but comfortable farm-style twin-bedded rooms. They all have en-suite showers and flush toilets. 1 of the rooms has a bath. Each room has a small sitting area, a dressing table and towels and guest soaps are provided. Although the rooms do not have fans, air-conditioning or mosquito nets, the windows and front door are covered with a gauze screen. Outside each room, on the veranda, is a sitting area.

One of the main attractions here is learning about day-to-day farm life. Most guests go on a 1-2hr farm drive after afternoon tea/coffee and cake. Farming techniques are discussed and explained to give the guests a much deeper understanding of farming in an arid land.

Dabis mostly farms crossbreed sheep, for lamb production, and advanced rotation techniques are practiced due to the area's meager rainfall.

Dabis Guest Farm is family-orientated and children are very welcome.

In the evening, a generator supplies electricity (220v) for a few hours.
