Established in 1920, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) is one of the leading beverage manufacturing companies in Namibia and one of the few independently owned breweries in southern Africa. NBL produces beer and carbonated soft drinks (Softs), with beer constituting 94% of total volumes sold. Our products are exported to 16 countries outside Namibia and South Africa. We have a significant share of the premium beer category in the region and are the leader in the Namibian beer market. Ours is the only large-scale commercial brewery in Africa that brews according to the German Reinheitsgebot of 1516, which requires the exclusive use of three ingredients: malted barley, hops and water. NBL’s commitment to the Reinheitsgebot provides consumers with a guarantee of quality and the use of safe, natural ingredients. Our full portfolio includes non-alcoholic products for all consumers, and alcoholic products for a wide range of adult consumer segments. Through the prestigious Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft (DLG) Awards – that rates beer brands brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (“Purity Law”) of 1516 against quality specifications for taste, analytical and biological standards - the brands Windhoek Lager, Tafel Lager, Windhoek Draught and Windhoek Light enjoys a reputation of quality and purity for which the brands have earned international recognition. These include winning the DLG Awards gold medals such as Windhoek Lager that won its 12th consecutive gold medal in 2018. Through responsible drinking initiatives, NBL creates awareness of potential social harm that can result from irresponsible alcohol use.
