About

Khowarib Lodge nestles on the banks of the Hoanib river in the magnificent Khowarib Gorge in north west Namibia. 14 Canvas chalets project out from the river bank on stilts over the river bed providing unrivalled, shady views of the cliffs opposite. On the fringe of Kaokoland, the lodge offers a perfect jumping off point to explore the remote north west of the country, either independently or on one of the lodge's extensive guided tours. The immediate surrounding area of Damaraland has many rich and interesting activities including desert adapted elephant and Himba settlements within easy reach.

Accommodation:

The centre-piece of the Khowarib Lodge complex is the lapa, an immense thatched structure constructed from local materials in traditional style. A large kopje creates an impressive back drop to the reception, bar, lounge, dining area and curio shop. Visitors relaxing on the veranda enjoy a panoramic view of the gorge, cliffs and surrounding area.

The luxury, en-suite tents are a short walk from the lodge to the river bank and comprise either twin or double bed sleeping arrangements. Viewing platforms extend from the front of each tent shaded by the plentiful Mopani trees but affording splendid views of the gorge. The bathrooms are spacious and well equipped and add to the feeling of indulgence and relaxation that Khowarib Lodge offers.

The complex benefits from mains electricity so peace and tranquillity are guaranteed. Wireless internet is also available at the lapa area.

Naturally, the complex has been built to create minimal environmental impact.

The tented chalets:

  • Viewing platform;
  • Naturally shaded;
  • Spacious, well appointed bathrooms;
  • Children’s rates; and
  • Tea/coffee making facilities.
