About

Kubunyana, which means 'small hippopotamus', is an attractive little haven on the banks of a quiet tributary of the Kwando River. This campsite is an excellent base for exploring Mudumu National Park, which is within easy reach for day trips, and for savouring the tranquillity of the African bush. The abundance of birds at the river will turn you into an avid bird watcher in no time. Guided walks along the river banks are available on request.

Kubunyana offers three large permanent tents and four individual sites for camping. The tents, set up under thatched shade structures, contain beds with mattresses and small pieces of furniture. Bedding is not provided. There are large open kitchen facilities under a lapa (thatched roof), as well as an ablution block with hot showers and toilets.

At the opposite end the four individual sites for camping are also situated in the shade.

There is a braai (barbeque) area and another ablution block with hot showers and toilets.

*Please note: There is no electricity at Kubunyana and that you should bring your own supply of drinking water.

Directions:

At Kongola you turn south onto the D3511 gravel road and continue for approximately 7km. The turn-off towards Kubunyana Community Camp is indicated by a sign post on the right. From there it is another 4km towards the campsite's entrance. The track is sandy in places and only negotiable with 4x4 vehicles.
